My Story

The year was 2008 during The Great Recession. Each morning I walked into the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri, I found myself captivated by the United States economy. My studies in Finance and my minor in Real Estate quickly revealed my career calling—to serve people by helping them seek to achieve financial confidence and stability. In a world shaken by uncertainty, I felt a responsibility to guide others toward confidence and clarity in their financial lives.

Believing that people dedicate their careers for the betterment of themselves and their loved ones, I set out to become an asset to individuals and families in all aspects of personal finance and growth. Alongside my business partner and best friend, Spencer Schoch, I co-founded Thompson Schoch Financial Advisors (TSFA) with a steadfast mission: to bring financial innovation, proactive strategies, and genuine care to the people we serve.

Over the past 15 years, we have been blessed with relationships—personal, professional, and spiritual—that have profoundly shaped our journey. One of the most pivotal moments for TSFA was when Abby Marquart joined our team as Chief Operations Officer. Her leadership and dedication made her the rock of our organization. In 2024, we welcomed Hayden Jansen as Client Relationship Director and Financial Paraplanner, further strengthening our team. I often say how grateful I am to work alongside my best friends—we love what we do and who we do it for.

But my path wasn’t without challenges. On Thanksgiving Day in 2013, I asked the love of my life, Carter Vieira, to marry me. She said “yes,” and we joyfully began planning our wedding. Soon after, however, I faced a life-changing battle: in early 2014, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis. My one goal was clear—make it to the altar in 2015. By God’s grace and with the support of family, friends, and treatment, I did. Today, I am healthy, happy, and immeasurably blessed.

Carter and I now share a full and beautiful life with our daughters. In 2018, we welcomed Livingston “Liv” James Thompson, who loves our “daddy-daughter date nights” (with Shirley Temples, of course) and spontaneous dance parties when I get home. In 2022, we welcomed Vieira “V” Grace Thompson, whose big personality keeps us all laughing. Most mornings begin with a shared breakfast bowl, cheersing spoons before taking on the day. I am surrounded by strong, amazing women—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My passion and drive were instilled in me by my parents, John and Marcia Thompson, who taught me the value of hard work, faith, and service. My sister, Emily, continues to inspire me in every aspect of life.

Outside of my professional work, I am grateful to serve as Chairman of the Notre Dame Regional High School Foundation Board, and as an advocate and board member for Men of Courage: Together We End Sexual Violence and Assault. Carter and I believe deeply in blessing our communities with our time, talent, and treasure.

Cheers to health, prosperity, and the journey ahead.
